In circuits can you regard a resistor in line with a secound voltage source as a voltage source itself?

say you have a circuit (all in series) or just one loop and you start by giving current direction say 10 volts and then the next element you encounter is a resister (with -2 volts) through which the current leaves counts as 8 volts....so heres my question if the next element is another voltage source (negative then positive terminals) say 8 v does the current leave that voltage source with 16v (like it was two batteries hooked up?
